The municipality of Ottobrunn is located southeast of Munich, about 15 km from Munich city center. Founded in 1902, the municipality now has around 21,000 inhabitants.
The convenient location (motorway and S-Bahn) makes Ottobrunn an ideal starting point for visits to Munich and the exploration of the Pre-Alps and the five-lakes-area.
Catholic Church of St. Otto
The Catholic parish church of St. Otto is the oldest existing church in Ottobrunn. It was consecrated on 11 April 1937 and belongs to the monuments in Ottobrunn.
St. Otto is located north of the Ottobrunn city center in Friedenstraße 17.
The Ottosäule is a memorial column unveiled in 1834 and an important cultural monument of the municipality Ottobrunn. The Dorian sandstone column is crowned by a bust of the youthful Prince Otto von Wittelsbach.
It marks the place where the then 17-year-old Prince took leave of his father, King Ludwig I of Bavaria, on December 6, 1832, to travel to his future kingdom of Greece with a 3500 strong entourage.
You will find the Ottobäule in the south of Ottobrunn in front of a spruce grove at the western edge of Rosenheimer Landstraße - opposite the house number 137b.
